Advice

  • Lifelines are the best. For a project this large, best practice is a lifeline every 10-20 rows. For any tedious or intricate pattern, before and after the hard parts. After so you won't have to do the hard part a second time if you make a mistake elsewhere and before in case you fail the hard part

Stumbles

  • Problem: different yarn types/thicknesses--- fix: adjust number of stitches/rows or let the project have sections of bunchie yarn (I went with the latter since I still have more types of yarn that may do the same thing in this case)
  • Problem: yarn shortages----- the pattern has been incomplete several times already from running out of a ball of yarn too soon and I even messed it up a couple times already, oh well. It will still be a very warm, very cozy blanket and the incomplete pattern makes it truly 1 of a kind. Even I will never be able to replicate this blanket exactly the same.
  • Problem: blanket too big to knit easily--- fix: I will probably temporarily sew 10-15 inches at a time in length so it can still fit in my lap. I will probably pick up a thick fishing line of some kind and use some kind of clamp to hold the ends together, so I can still undo it for pictures.
  • Problem: run out of border yarn before the work is done--- to start, put your border yarn in 2 equal balls right away. Once you have your first edge border done, add the second ball for the other edge and keep the first ball for the first edge. When you run out, finish that border yarn off like it's the real border and start new border balls. That will keep it symmetrical and it will look like you meant to do that (I did check a local yarn facility and there isn't even any yarn there that closely matches).

Yarns/Needles Tips and Tricks

  • Always leave a lifeline in until the piece is complete, even if you have multiple lifelines in *Do Not Take the previous one out* you never know when you'll have to back up further than you thought!
