My mom tried so many times to teach me how to crochet. She crocheted blankets for all 5 of her kids and mine was taken from me very young. Once I learned to knit though, I caught on immediately and kept that skill my entire life. 


I once used large balls of yarn my mom had, like they were a basket ball. They got horribly tangled and when my mom went to start her project, she was none too impressed. I did confess and she made me untangle them all. Which I did, easier than I thought I would. She didn't yell at me. She didn't degrade me and she taught me a huge skill in patience, while we as a family were facing serious problems, too. Of all the things I did wrong as a child, that one was my favourite. I bet she thought of me non-stop once she was finally able to start her project!!
